We're proud to be English UK's insight partner for the Quarterly Intelligence Cohort (QUIC), which is recognized as the most detailed student statistics scheme in the ELT industry.
Ivana Slobodnikova, BONARD’s International Education Director, was responsible for this outstanding project delivery. Here are the key highlights from the QUIC Q1 2023 report, jointly produced by English UK and BONARD:
1) Student week volume bouncing back
The UK ELT sector is steadily regaining its strength. In fact, the student week volume has nearly reached pre-pandemic levels, currently standing at an impressive 92% of Q1 2019. In terms of age groups, adult learners have recovered around 95% of their 2019 student week volume, while juniors have achieved a commendable 76% recovery rate.
2) General English courses taking the lead
Among the various course types available, General English courses have emerged as the most popular choice in both the junior and adult markets. These courses have attracted a remarkable 81% of junior weeks and an overwhelming majority (92%) of all adult weeks. Clearly, the versatility and appeal of General English courses continue to resonate with language learners.
3) Saudi Arabia leading the way
Saudi Arabia has maintained its position as the top source market, making a significant impact on the UK ELT sector. With 25,671 student weeks, Saudi Arabia also achieved the highest absolute increase, surpassing Q1 2022 by 9,410 student weeks.
